Krillion Game: How to Play, Scoring & Tips to Find Rare Answers
Krillion is a free daily trivia game where the rarest correct answer wins. In the Krillion game, everyone gets the same seven prompts, has 25 seconds to type one answer to each, and earns more points for valid answers fewer people think of. This independent guide explains how to play, how scoring and rarity work, and how to find rare answers without spoilers.
What Is Krillion?
Krillion is a free browser trivia game at krillion.io. Each day brings seven prompts, the same for everyone. Any valid answer counts, but rarer valid answers score far more, and obvious ones barely count. The fun is in finding an answer that is both correct and unlikely to be on everyone else's mind.

How to Play Krillion
A daily round takes only a few minutes. Here is what happens on each of the seven prompts.
1. Read the prompt
Each prompt asks for something in a category, and many different answers are valid. Before you type, check the exact wording: the category, any limits on time or place, and whether it wants a person, a thing or a word. An answer that is true in general but outside the prompt will not count.
2. Type one answer before the timer ends
You have 25 seconds per prompt. There are no choices to pick from: you type freely. The game accepts known aliases, and when it suspects a typo it may suggest a correction that you confirm by submitting again, or fix by editing (the official screen reads "submit again to confirm · or edit"). An answer that is missing from the game's list scores nothing. The official FAQ admits that some fair answers can be missing, so a correct but unlisted answer is a real risk.
3. See your tier, then the next prompt
Each accepted answer lands in a rarity tier, and you move on to the next prompt. After all seven prompts, your tier points add up to a total score for the day.
Daily, Unlimited, Archive and packs
The daily round is the shared set that everyone plays. The official site also has an Unlimited mode, an Archive of past days and themed packs. Check krillion.io for how each of those works today; this guide only covers the shared rules and scoring.
How Krillion Scoring Works
Every accepted answer is worth between 10 and 100 points, depending on its tier. Seven prompts at 100 points each gives a maximum of 700.
The six rarity tiers
| Tier | Points per answer |
|---|---|
| Plankton (the obvious answer) | Points per answer: 10 |
| Too Clever (the "obscure" pick everyone reaches for) | Points per answer: 15 |
| Schooler | Points per answer: 30 |
| Rare | Points per answer: 60 |
| Deep Cut | Points per answer: 85 |
| One in a Krillion (the designated top answer) | Points per answer: 100 |
Tier names are quoted only to explain the official scoring. They belong to the original game, and the explanations in brackets are ours.
How rarity is decided
According to the official FAQ, answer sets are compiled from dictionaries, wiki pages, encyclopedias and similar sources. Rarity comes from a familiarity database that measures how often a word or name appears in what people read and write. Where that doesn't work, the developer uses LLM assistance plus a manual pass.
A common myth: rarity is not a live count of what other players typed today. Several guides claim your score depends on how many players entered the same answer. The official FAQ describes a fixed familiarity measure instead, so the points for an answer do not move as people play.
Why the top answer isn't always the rarest
The official FAQ says the top-tier answer for each prompt is also chosen for fun factor, not just obscurity. That means a deeper cut can sometimes be rarer than the top tier itself. Don't chase the single most obscure name you can think of; aim for answers that are uncommon and clearly valid.
What counts as a good score?
There is no official target in this guide, but the arithmetic helps. Averaging the Rare tier (60 points) on every prompt gives 420. Any total above roughly 350 means most of your answers were genuinely uncommon. A few 10-point answers are normal on hard prompts; the score climbs when you avoid them on easy ones.
Why other sites show different numbers
Some lookalike and "unlimited" clone games use different point values (for example 4/8/16/32/64/100) or different timers. If a page shows numbers that don't match the table above, it is probably describing a different game. This guide follows the values used by the official krillion.io.
Krillion Tips: How to Find Rare Answers
These tips are about how to think, not what to type. They work on any prompt, and none of them depends on knowing a day's answers.
Say the obvious answer to yourself, then skip it
Your first idea is usually everyone's first idea. Name it in your head, set it aside, and use it as a reference point for what "too easy" looks like for this prompt.
Watch out for the "too clever" answer
The second idea often feels clever, but it is frequently the crowd's second idea too. If an answer is the famous "less famous" option, keep going one more step.
Change the angle, not the effort
Instead of searching harder in the same place, switch dimension: another region, another era, a subtype, a profession, or the smallest or oldest member of the category. A new angle produces valid answers that few people reach.
Choose specifics you can spell
An unlisted or mistyped answer scores nothing, so a confident specific beats a wild gamble. If the game suggests a correction, read it before you confirm: make sure it is the answer you meant.
Budget your 25 seconds
Spend about 5 seconds listing three candidates, about 10 seconds picking the least obvious one you are sure about, and type with time to spare. Running out the clock is the most expensive mistake.
Build category maps between games
Rare answers come from breadth. Between daily rounds, practice common categories such as countries, animals, foods and sports with Rare Pick Unlimited, or try other games like Krillion. For example, if a quiz of our own asked for a European capital, Paris and Rome would be the obvious picks, while Ljubljana or Valletta would be safer uncommon choices. That example is illustrative and is not taken from the official game.
Krillion Hints Without Spoilers
We never publish daily answers or prompt-specific hints. If you want a warm-up before you play, try one of these general strategies instead:
- Category ladder: list members of a category from most to least famous, then aim for the lower rungs.
- Alphabet scan: run through letters you rarely start with to surface names you already know but would not think of first.
- Regional switch: take a familiar category and move it to another country or continent.

How does Krillion scoring work?
Accepted answers are placed in six tiers worth 10, 15, 30, 60, 85 or 100 points. According to the official FAQ, rarity comes from how familiar a word or name is in published sources, sometimes with manual review, not from a live count of other players' answers.
